Social media was ablaze in the past week at the revelation by SEO firm ‘Graphite’ that the internet now contains more AI articles than human generated articles. Estimates sit between 50/50 to 52% AI / 48% Human.
Only a few days before the news broke, I was scrolling reddit and stumbled upon a post discussing the use of AI for blogging. One particular comment shocked me (screenshots below) – it was discussing how the commentor runs over 100 blogging sites in travel, shopping, and tech that is 100% automated and generated by AI.
In follow up comments to questions from others, among other things, they explained how they also use 100% AI to generate and automate the ‘weekly newsletter’. In their words it is all “completely hands off”.
I knew this existed, but to see it in ‘black & white’ was something else. Not only that, but the detachment between creating the content as well as the audience (readers) was equally as shocking. Whilst this comment was the ‘worst’ that I have seen as far as using AI to generate mass content, the commentor is certainly not alone – I see people on the daily singing the praises of AI to help them with ‘smashing out’ blog posts. They reinforce this practice by proclaiming “if you don’t do this, you will be left behind”.

Both my fear and motivation for creating the Sentient Blogs platform has been realised and evidenced. I knew it was inevitable, but I must admit, I did not think it would happen so quickly.
The slightly positive note is that, according to the report, the use of AI in generating articles has appeared to plateau. Is this due to the pushback? The realisation that AI is slop and not well received? Or simply just a temporary ‘pullback’ before the resuming of a continual uptrend?
No matter the reason, I will continue to generate blogs without any ‘assistance’ of AI and will continue to support and promote those that do the same. I believe now more than ever that human created content, completely free of AI involvement, will soon be a sought after commodity. To use the much overused war cry – HOLD THE LINE!
