Self-Awareness

Part 1:

Question 1: Concept of Self-Awareness.

Self-awareness is a concept where one experiences one’s own personality and individuality. It is where an individual understands their character, feelings, and their innermost desires. Self-awareness allows individuals to reflect on their experiences and gain insight into their own behavior, thoughts, and feelings. It enables people to recognize their strengths and weaknesses and to identify areas for improvement. By developing self-awareness, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their motivations, which can help them make more informed decisions and improve their relationships with others. It is an essential component of emotional intelligence and is considered a fundamental aspect of personal growth and development.

The concept over the years has been found to be crucial in the management of teams in the working environment.  There are two types of self-awareness: internal and external awareness. Internal awareness involves being able to identify and monitor one’s own inner experiences, such as feelings, beliefs, and values, and to understand how they influence one’s behavior. Internal self-awareness allows individuals to reflect on their own mental and emotional processes, and to understand how these processes affect their behavior and decision-making. External awareness, on the other hand, refers to the ability to understand how others perceive us and to recognize how our behavior impacts others. It involves being able to see ourselves from an outside perspective and to understand how our actions and words affect those around us.

Question 2: Comparing Experiences

My experience after the simulation of self-awareness was self-informing in that there was an exchange of feedback after the completion of work assignments. It was noted that after the simulation, workers asked for feedback in relation to their competencies of the job requirements. This, in turn, cultivated the company’s culture and fostered an environment where my co-workers became motivated to work within the required descriptions and deadlines, as compared to previous times where there was redundancy at work. Before, there was little to no motivation, and workers arrived late for work. More so, there were conflicts within the working environment. However, after the simulation of the self-awareness program, with feedback, there was a significant drop in the cases of conflict as all my co-workers gave feedback; thus, enhancing communication.

It was after the simulation of the self-awareness program that there was room for growth and the realization of opportunities. Before my co-workers and I became self-aware, work routines were rigid in that there was a stunted growth in the organization. However, after the simulation, co-workers reflected a renewed sense of responsibility, and with their improved work ethic, there was a surge in the emergence of opportunities, which catapulted the growth rate of the organization. One would notice the significant shift in the work habits and behavior within the working environment. It is with this that communication soared and new ideas were discussed. This, equipped with self-awareness traits, led to the emergence of new capabilities from my co-workers and me as people realized they had strengths they were not aware of, which has led to significant growth and the rise of new opportunities. It is crucial to note the importance of self-awareness in the workplace.

Part 2: Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle

In accordance with my personal resilience, the Gibbs reflective cycle has enabled me to harness a surge level of resilience since the onset of the cycle. First, I had to identify a situation that was a challenge to me at the work place, and it involved solving some mathematical calculations using a software program. At the time, my thoughts were that I could not manipulate the software to get the results that I required. It was at this point that I realized it was a challenge. After making an evaluation, I realized that I could improve the usage of the software program, as beforehand, I had a bad experience at first, in an attempt to compute the mathematical operations. With this, I realized that some training would improve my engagement with the computing software. In this, I considered hiring an expert to compute the problems. Nonetheless, I realized that from my experience, I could harness the skillset to manipulate the software program to my advantage. With such, I came to the conclusion that I would train and get the skills, considering the graphical user interface of the program is user-friendly. And with this, I have started training, an aspect that has surged the level of my personal resilience.

When facing a stressful situation similar to the one mentioned above. One has its strengths and weaknesses. And in this stance, the strengths I had during the attempt to manipulate the computing software program. One of the strengths I had during this stressful situation was my basic background in Information Technology (IT). With such I was able to understand the icons and other features of the graphical user interface, which made me navigate the software program. Nonetheless, there was a weakness I experienced during this stressful stance at the workplace. I had a challenge in incorporating a mathematical formula into the software program, and I found this stressful enough.

In the adaptation of my responses in support of professional and personal growth, self-awareness has enabled me to first consider the other party before submitting my response. With the ability to provide feedback, my professional development has surged by a significant margin. It is through the engagement of my co-workers that I have been promoted to my personal motivation; thus, building my character and desires correctly. More so, the opening of communication channels has promoted the development of both personal and professional capacities for me as an employee.

In conclusion, self-awareness involves the realization of one’s own individual personality. It involves the realization of one’s character, motives, desires, and feelings. Self-awareness is divided into two namely internal and external self-awareness. With this trait in one’s personal and professional atmosphere, they are likely to improve feedback channels and the emergence of new opportunities and growth rates. Following self-awareness, I was able to identify a challenge under the Gibbs reflective cycle and work through strengths and weaknesses to see that I have overcome the challenge of incorporating a computational software program.
